About - Juliet Haas

About the Artist

Juliet has worked in and around the Photographic and Entertainment Industries since 1993. During her first few semesters as a Photography major at Santa Monica’s Community College she began volunteering as a photography and darkroom teacher to at risk youth ages 6 to 18 with the original Venice Arts Mecca. She went on to work as a black and white proof printer with four professional Hollywood film processing labs occasionally having the good fortune of working on random commercial and high fashion shoots. When the industry went digital and she found herself without a profession she branched out into other areas of the entertainment industry acquiring many unique skills including loading 35mm Arriflex Motion Picture magazines on Commercial and Short Films, booking the occasional set-stills gig on theater productions and student films as well as working as a Production Coordinator at the dynamic Commercial Boutique FUEL.

After a five year hiatus from Photography and unable to shake the yearning to create images, Juliet finally picked up her first digital DSLR over the course of a two week road trip Summer 2005 and the future was set. Honing her skills in wedding and headshot photography, portraiture and street photography she finally found a home in the fine art photography community while attending the One-Year Professional Program with Los Angeles Center of Photography. In January 2014 she won her first award as a Finalist in the PHOTO L.A. Emerging Focus competition and spoke about her work publicly for the first time as a presenter with Open Show Los Angeles. By May she would begin co-producing with Open Show Los Angeles, and in December of 2014 she began working as Project Manager with YourDailyPhotograph.

Fast forward to today and now a full-time resident of Sacramento, CA, Juliet continues to collaborate with other artists creating portrait projects and producing photo-based artist screening events as a curator and producer of Open Show Sacramento. In March of 2017 she founded the fine art critique group PHOTO-Sacto. The six founding members exhibited FOUND OBJECTS in celebration of their first year together at Yolo Arts Gallery 625 during The inaugural Photography Month Sacramento in April 2018. The group continues to meet once a month to share new projects and inspiration.

Juliet actively submits work to calls for entry and exhibits locally and nationally as well as in numerous online forums. Her most recent awards include Jurors Choice Award for her image Owens Lookout for The 2018 SAC Open Studios Tour, Finalist and Honorable Mention for her image Surveilled which will be published in the Photographer’s Forum hard cover book Best of Photography 2018, and her series Marionettes and Ghosts of Other Visions has been selected for a group exhibition in the Main Gallery at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center August 2019.
